I can’t even begin to count how many times I’ve read posts on forums where someone who has grown up playing video games creates a thread begging for someone to tech him how to “hack”. This is such a general request that it inevitably always goes unanswered. I can safely assume that most of these people posting such requests are getting bored or want to impress their friends by getting into parts (or changing parts) of websites without the proper authorization.

Learning how to hack is not an something you can learn overnight by reading a few books. It requires much training. This training that I am referring to is having the patience to become competent in many programming languages. A good place to start is with HTML, followed by PHP, Java, and Pearl. Of course there are many more out there but after you have gotten a hold of the basics put them to test to start building an understanding of how all the intricacies of a website work together.

A nice resource, and perfectly legal, place to begin testing yourself is www.hackthissite.org. I suggest beginning with the “basic missions” as the “realistic missions” can be quite frustrating if you don’t have much experience with these things.

Hopefully this post can help cut down on the “HELP PLEASE TEACH ME HOW TO HACK!!!” posts in some of the forums I frequent.

Also, by no means, and I suggesting that I am and accomplished “hacker” or suggesting that I am the best- I am merely sharing a good/fun resource with everyone. Enjoy! :-)
